Macchiarini Creative Design

This pendant was made as a collaborative commission for Carlos Santana. It is based on a mask made by Daniel in 1998 which Santana saw on a visit to Macchiarini studio in late 2008. Santana loved the design and proposed to Daniel and Emma the idea of creating a full body for the monkey mask, placing a banana in one hand and a 1/4ct diamond in the other, signifying a literal artistic "choice" that might make people examine their own values. Emma made a full drawing based on his concept and added her own design ideas. "Monkey's Choice" is the result of their collaboration.
